Our guest speaker is James Kienle. Over
30 years ago, he and his wife Marjorie had a vision for a
dilapidated 1872 Carpenter Gothic cottage-style house in
Indianapolis. The house is now a beautifully preserved home.
Kienle, an Indianapolis architect, has spent a large portion of
his life revitalizing and restoring public buildings, historic
theaters, homes and firms, in Indianapolis, Washington, D.C.,
and elsewhere. In June of 2009 he became the first director of
the Historic Preservation Studio of Moody-Nolan Inc., the
largest African-American owned and operated architecture firm in
the nation. Kienle enjoys passing along his knowledge and
enthusiasm. He encourages current home-seekers to consider
restoring older homes as an environmentally and economically
sound move that preserves history and revitalizes neighborhoods. |
